Foyer Artisan Candle Studio finds its origins in its co-founders’ passion for using scented candles and aromatherapy to find their own moments of peace. Fueled by a desire to share this with the world and a mission to give back to the community, Cyril and his partner launched a brand that would do just that. Squarespace spoke to Cyril about the passion behind the brand, how they increase brand awareness, and continue to grow their online business.

SQUARESPACE: The idea behind Foyer Artisan Candles came from your own passion for aromatherapy and scented candles. What inspired you to take this interest and turn it into a business?

Cyril Gomez Que: Before we started making candles, my partner and I were always feeling the need to help out the community. We gathered up all our interests and personal vessels of inspiration or peace. We concluded with candles: it has been both of our liking and a representation of our peace/strength when we light them up. Especially during the pandemic where everyday was filled with anxiety, clutter and chaos. We decided to launch Foyer Candle Studio so we could share our technique in coping with what was/is happening. Further than that, the earnings that Foyer gets are used to fund mental health organizations and places where calamities have occurred. 

SQSP: How has upgrading your online store to utilize Product Collections 2.0 helped you manage your site? 

CGQ: It has been a massive game changer for us. We can easily track our orders through the commerce app, where it is organized from the oldest to the newest order, which has been convenient and effective. Another great feature is updating our stock on hand. This way customers will never have to order and expect a delay to their purchases. Integrations with logistics companies have significantly helped us in committing to a quick and safe way of delivering our candles.

SQSP: As an online business, what tools do you use to build brand awareness and community online?

CGQ: The tools we use: one big tool is the use of our social media platforms in order to portray our idea of brand awareness and community. The next one where social media also is involved is through our website where people can subscribe to our mailings and also know more about our brand and what we do. In addition, an occasional promotion of our brand for 2-5 days is also being utilized. On these moments we make sure we upload a new event such as donations, sister companies/businesses that have the same goals, and discovery scents that we know will be of great interest to the public.

SQSP: Candles are always a popular holiday gift. Are you doing anything specific to prepare your ecommerce store for the season?

CGQ: We will be doing greeting cards, Christmas ribbons and our logo will be beautified accordingly. We tend to stick to our eco-friendly packaging, hence not a massive facelift to the packaging. Another attraction will be product codes for discounts on purchases made during the holiday season; sets and hampers will also be done during this season.
